What we sell

Buy it the way
that suits you

Most yards make you buy a whole cord whether you need one or not. We don’t. Take a pickup load, a half cord, a full cord — or walk the yard and pull exactly what you want by the cubic foot.

Full Cord

A true 128 cubic feet, stacked and measured. The right buy if wood is your main heat source through a foothill winter.

Best for — heating a whole house all season

Half Cord

64 cubic feet. Plenty for a woodstove used most evenings, or a top-up when the cold snap runs longer than you planned.

Best for — regular evening fires

Truck Load

Pull up and we’ll load you. Short bed, long bed, trailer — you pay for what actually fits, not a made-up number.

Best for — anyone with a pickup

Pick & Pull

Walk the yard, choose the wood you actually want, and pay by the cubic foot. No minimum, no guessing what’s under the tarp.

Best for — fussy fire-builders & small loads
Pricing moves with the season and the species. Call (530) 626-1746 for today’s numbers — we’ll tell you straight, and we’ll tell you how far it’ll get you.

See the wood
before you buy it

There is no way to tell good firewood from bad through a truck window. So we let you walk right up to the pile.

Check the end grain. Knock two pieces together and listen for that hollow ring that means it’s dry. Pick out the big splits for the overnight burn and the small stuff for kindling. Then we measure what you took and that’s what you pay for.

It’s an old-fashioned way to sell wood. It’s also the only way that’s completely fair to both of us.

Straight answers

How much wood
do you actually need?

Firewood is sold in units most people never use anywhere else. Here’s what they mean, so nobody can sell you short.

  • Full cord128 cubic feet of tightly stacked wood — 4 ft high, 4 ft deep, 8 ft long. This is the only unit defined in law, and it’s the one we measure against.
  • Half cord64 cubic feet. Same stack, half the length.
  • Face cord / rick4 ft high by 8 ft long, but only as deep as the logs are long. With 16″ splits that’s about a third of a cord — a common way to get short-changed elsewhere.
  • Pickup loadA short-bed half ton holds roughly a third of a cord; a full-size long bed, closer to a half. We load and measure in front of you.
  • Rule of thumbA woodstove as primary heat through a foothill winter runs 3–4 cords. Weekend fires and the occasional cold snap, a half to one cord.
Why buy here

Four reasons people
keep coming back

01

Properly seasoned

Green wood hisses, smokes, and coats your chimney in creosote. Ours is split early and stacked to dry, so it lights easy and burns hot. If a load isn’t ready, we’ll tell you rather than sell it.

02

Measured honestly

A cord here is 128 cubic feet, stacked. No “pickup cords,” no vague piles. Customers regularly tell us they got more than they expected — that’s on purpose.

03

County approved

We’re an authorized firewood vendor for El Dorado County’s Wood & Propane assistance program, so households on HEAP can use their benefit right here.

04

Local, and staying

Same yard on Mother Lode Drive that folks knew as Taegers Firewood. Same family, same phone number. We live here too — our reputation walks into the hardware store with us.

Delivery

We’ll bring it
up your driveway

Not everybody has a truck, and nobody enjoys making four trips. Tell us where you are and roughly how much you need, and we’ll quote the load delivered.

Steep driveway, tight turnaround, gate code, dump it here not there — mention it when you call. We’d rather know in advance than guess at your place.

Delivery fee depends on distance and load size. Outside these towns? Call anyway — we’ll tell you if it pencils out.

Payment

Paying us should
be the easy part

Questions

Good to know

How do I know the wood is really seasoned?

Seasoned wood is lighter than it looks, shows cracks radiating out from the centre of the cut end, and gives a sharp hollow knock when two pieces are struck together. Green wood is heavy, the ends look fresh and wet, and it thuds. Come pull a piece off our pile and try it yourself — we’d rather you checked.

What species do you carry?

We typically stock oak as our main heating wood, along with almond, madrone, and mixed softwoods like fir, pine, and cedar for kindling and shoulder-season fires. Availability shifts through the year, so call to see what’s on the ground today.

Can I use my El Dorado County WPO / HEAP benefit here?

Yes. We’re on the county’s authorized firewood vendor list. Bring your paperwork and we’ll handle it. Note that the county requires HEAP wood deliveries to be half hardwood and half softwood — that’s their rule, not ours.

Do you stack it, or just dump it?

Standard delivery is dumped in a single pile where you point. If you need it stacked, ask when you order — we can usually arrange it for an additional charge depending on how far it has to be carried.

How far in advance should I order?

Come October the phone doesn’t stop. If you know you’ll want wood this winter, order in late summer or early fall — you’ll get a better pick of the seasoned stock and you won’t be waiting on a delivery slot during the first real cold snap.

How can I pay?

Every way you'd expect and a few you might not. Prepay online right from this site with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay — about thirty seconds, and your load is booked. At the yard or in your driveway you can tap a card or your phone against our reader, use chip or swipe, or pay cash or check. And if you'd rather sort it out over the phone, we'll text you a payment link for the exact amount so you can pay from wherever you are. See the payment options →

Is it safe to pay through the website?

Yes. Checkout runs on Square's own secure page — the same system used by tens of thousands of small businesses. Your card details go straight to Square; we never see them, and nothing is stored on this site.

Do you sell kindling or bundles?

Yes — small splits and kindling are available by the bag, and we keep bundles on hand for campers and folks who just want one good evening fire.

Where exactly are you?
